Are you sick and tired of having eggs again for breakfast?
Do your kids keep asking you when cereal will be put back on their morning menu?
Are you desperately searching for a new favourite “go-to” that doesn’t include eggs?
Then read on for my top five egg-less breakfast ideas.
But before I get there…I want to get one thing straight.
Eggs are an extremely nutrient dense food. Like, really, really nutrient dense. One of the best foods there is.
They contain:
- Cholesterol, which is actually a nutrient. (No, it has not been associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease despite the myths you may have heard.)
- Choline, which makes signals used by your brain and is also vital for proper development of a growing fetus.
- Vitamin B12, which is needed for your nervous system to fire properly.
- Protein, in fact, eggs contain all the essential amino acids and in the correct ratios.
- And small amounts of almost every single vitamin and mineral required by humans.
…but I get it; you are sick of eating them every morning for breakfast. So I wanted to share with you my favourite By Design alternatives.
- Breakfast hash. Chop up bacon, apple and celery and combine with shredded sweet potato and cinnamon in a pan over medium heat.
- Cabbage and sausage. Combine sliced green cabbage, sausage and a fat of your choice and bake it in the oven until the sausage turns golden brown.
- Avocado pudding. Blend an avocado, banana, raw cacao and coconut milk together until you get a pudding consistency.
- Egg-less breakfast skillet. Combine potato, sausage, bacon, peppers, onion, garlic and raw cheese in a cast iron skillet. The only difference; do not top it with an egg.
- Nutty cereal. Toss in a bowl cashews, almonds, shredded coconut flakes and pumpkin seeds and top with a sliced banana and homemade nut milk or unpasteurized dairy milk.
But really, my simplest breakfast solution is to eat whatever I had for dinner the night before. Bun-less burgers wrapped in lettuce leaves, pulled pork and avocado, sausage and sauerkraut…whatever leftovers I have in my fridge.
I know it seems weird at first, but when you are eating By Design having meat and vegetables at 7:00 am starts to become your (and your kid’s) new normal.
