Is The Universe A Bad Place?

Have you ever heard or said any of the following:

"Bad things come in threes."

"No pain, no gain."

"Life's a ... then you die'?"

I know that you've heard them, but if you've said them, you hold in your brain what's called the Malevolent Universe Premise.

The Malevolent Universe Premise is this idea that the universe is a bad place, that life sucks, that the only thing possible to humans is suffering, hurting, and struggling. The only purpose of our life is to struggle and is to suffer.

If you have this belief, how is that going to express itself in your life?

It's important to understand this, because a lot of people out there hold this idea and hold this belief. What it does, if you have it, is it totally undercuts everything that you do in your life.

Imagine being excited about starting a new project or being excited about getting into a new relationship or having a new job, but in the background of your brain is this idea that it's just going to turn up to be a disaster, it's going to be really hard, and it's going to be a struggle. If you hold that belief, it's going to be really hard to find joy.

In fact, a lot of people, and trust me, I know because I grew up in an environment like, unfortunately, most eastern Europe people have and hold this belief.  They think that life is suffering; they think that it's not fun. If you have it, it's going to totally undercut everything that you value and everything that you believe. It's going to make your life less than it could be.

The scary and the worst part about these beliefs is we don't even know that we have them. We don't even know where we pick them up or how they got into our brain, but they did. They did because of our background.

As human beings, nothing is given to us automatically; we have to acquire all the knowledge. Somewhere along the line, we've picked up this belief, we've heard it, or we've been around enough people, because a majority of the world holds it. By default because we've never thought about it, we've picked it up, as well.

What can you do about it?

Really simple; the first step is to recognize this. The first step is to even recognize that this is an idea. That's the purpose of the video above.

I've met enough people that I've attempted to help where this was the tape being played in the back of their brain. Until we can get over that, nothing else is going to matter.

The very first step is identification.

Right now, you have the knowledge that this idea exists, that it's out there, that it could be in your brain, and maybe that's enough for you right now. Maybe that's just enough to get your brain working and thinking about it.

The next step, once you understand the idea, is to identify it in our actions and in our beliefs.

If you ever catch yourself thinking or saying one of those things that I said at the beginning of the video, that's a clear indicator that you think this way.

Trust me, this stuff isn't easy. I'm a walking, living example. If you know me, if you know my story, if you know what I went through and how many times I've had to change and question my core belief system, you can do it, but it's not a project that's going to happen tomorrow because these beliefs, they play in the background, it's the way that we see the world, it's our lens.

In order to change your lens, it's going to take a little bit of work and likely a lot of work depending on where you are.

If this tape is playing in the background of your life, it's going to undercut your life and keep you from being extraordinary.

Hopefully, reading this will help you to recognize it and start to change your playlist.

Now its your turn. Has this tape ever played in your head?  What have you done to overcome it?  Please leave your comments below.
