You Are Not a Failure

…but you did fail.

What’s the difference?

Calling yourself a failure means that you are going to miss the mark on everything you attempt because that’s what failures do. You failed means you did not do what you intended to do on this particular task – Eat By Design, Move By Design, or make it to your important spine and nerve system checkup (Power By Design). Huge difference!

In fact, one of the reasons you need to have a good nerve supply is that nerve system communication between the brain and body is in charge of organizing how we behave.

For example:

Remember the last time you were under a lot of stress and you began to crave the same old foods you always crave when you are under stress? They don’t call it comfort food for no reason! That is your nerve system working.

Remember when you rode your bike for the first time in 15 years, you jumped on it and didn’t have to re-learn how to use it? That is your nerve system working.

Remember the last time you heard a song that you haven’t heard or thought of in five years and, when you heard it, you can remember the exact spot you were in, your state of mind, and who you were with when you heard it. That is your nerve system working.

Behaviours are patterns, ingrained in your mind, and to change takes a tremendous amount of effort and time… and yes, I hate to break it to you, but failing at tasks is going to be part of the process.

When you begin feeling "low" and that ‘old record’ begins to play in your mind, stay focused on these simple thoughts and actions:

  1. You are not alone.  Everyone has challenges. The successful people find ways to overcome them; the unsuccessful get overcome by them.
  2. DO NOT under any circumstance begin to ignore what you are thinking and feeling. Get a journal and begin to learn about yourself. You are not divided mind from body; you are a whole person. Don’t be at war with yourself.
  3. You are changing your brain – your thoughts, every action, every adjustment helps create a new pattern in your brain – eventually making the new behaviour easier and more natural.
  4. Get up, dust yourself off, and try again.
